Mr Carlo Borghini is responsible for the overall management of Europe’s Rail, successor of the Shift2Rail Joint Undertaking, activities since he took up the position of Executive Director in February 2016; in 2021, his mandate has been extended up to May 2026. Prior to this posting, Mr Borghini held senior management positions in different domains in private and international organisations, at corporate level. He was the Deputy Executive Director for the SESAR Joint Undertaking (SJU) in Brussels from 2008 to 2014, and prior to this was Director and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), a specialised Agency of the United Nations based in Rome. Mr Borghini holds a Master’s Degree equivalent in Business Economics and speaks Italian, French and English. He is married with three children.

Thomas Jarzombek has been a member of the Bundestag since 2009. He comes from Düsseldorf in North Rhine-Westphalia. He is spokesman for the CDU/CSU parliamentary group in the Bundestag Committee for Education, Research and Technology Assessment and a member of Committee on Digital Affairs. 2018-2021 he was the representative of the Federal Ministry of Economics for the digital economy and start-ups. In addition, he was the federal government’s coordinator for German aerospace policy. The focus of his work as representative for the digital economy and start-ups was the dialogue with the players in the digital industry and with start-ups. His goal was to make the digital market even more accessible for start-ups and to improve the political framework for an international market. During his tenure, the future fund was founded with a volume of 10 billion euros.

The mission of the Unit is to establish an interoperable and safe Single European Rail area and to manage the relationships with the European Union Agency for Railways and the Shift-To-Rail Joint undertaking. Mr Fitch is the former Deputy Head of Cabinet of Siim Kallas, Vice-President and Commissioner for Transport where Mr. Fitch was responsible for land transport, security and state aids, inter alia. He was also the coordinator of the White Paper of the Future of Transport. Mr Fitch studied mathematics and law at Cambridge, was a lawyer at Herbert Smith and then moved on to the UK civil service in 1993. He joined the European Commission’s Legal Service in 1999. Thomas Meißner holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering at the Berlin University of Technology. Over the past six months, Mr. Raja Narayanan has been working closely with potential early Hyperloop commercial projects in India, USA, and Italy. He is also involved in working with various European agencies though our appointed agent. Before joining Virgin Hyperloop two years ago, Raja was most recently an SVP at Hyundai-Aptiv Autonomous Driving Joint Venture, focused on commercializing L4 autonomous driving technology. He was part of a broader executive team at Aptiv that led to the creation of the joint venture (JV) valued at $4 billion. At the JV, he was responsible for developing, nurturing, and maintaining a broad swath of partnerships which included maximizing commercial value into the program ecosystem. Prior to that, Raja was involved with OneWeb, where he led the creation of a financially compelling offering for commercial aviation. As a VP at Panasonic, he led the strategic plan and P&L transformation of the appliances business unit into IoT-based automation. In a previous assignment, he was responsible for driving the re-imagination of the business and technology architecture of the in-flight platform for commercial aviation. Raja holds a master’s degree in computer science from University of Louisiana, Lafayette, and dual bachelor’s degrees in engineering and physics from the Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore, India, and the University of Madras, India, respectively. He is also a co-author of 6 wireless networking patents that have been granted by the U.S. patent office.

Mars Geuze is Chief Commercial Officer at Hardt Hyperloop, a European company that develops the hyperloop: sustainable high-speed transportation for passengers and goods. Przemek is the CEO of Nevomo and co-founder of the company. Pierre oversees the design engineering functions for Virgin Hyperloop, including systems engineering, vehicle development, electromagnetic actuator development, control systems, power electronics, flight control systems, embedded software development and fleet management. Pierre will support the launch of the company’s new cargo product and hyperloop-as-a-service business model. Over the course of his career, Pierre has held multiple technical leadership positions in the aerospace industry where he steered the work of highly skilled professionals on complex, multi-disciplinary technical programs. In April 2021 Markus Bauer was appointed managing director of thyssenkrupp Transrapid GmbH. The company developed the maglev trains for the commercial line linking Shanghai Airport with the city of Shanghai at a top speed of 430 km/h. As a result, thyssenkrupp Transrapid has extensive experience in the design, manufacture and commissioning of a commercially operated high-speed maglev train. Today, the company also develops innovative mechatronic systems and digital products with artificial intelligence. Markus is a physicist with a broad background in maglev technology as well as in the application of high temperature superconductors. He is convinced that the combination of decades of maglev experience with modern digital solutions and high-temperature superconductors will provide groundbreaking solutions for Hyperloop systems.

As of March 2017 Dieter Michell-Auli has taken over a new role as Chief Sales Officer (CSO), in order to strengthen sales within DB Engineering & Consulting, which offers the expertise of Deutsche Bahn AG, starting from feasibility studies to design and construction and further to operation and maintenance of railway and logistic systems. The company consults and supports international clients and develops innovative and economic green solutions for mobility and transportation services. Since October 2017 Mr. Michell-Auli is also Member of the Board of Managing Directors and CSO of Deutsche Bahn International Operations GmbH, subsidiary of DB AG responsible for implementing rail operations and maintenance projects outside Europe.

Stefanie Horn is working for different digital transformation units of Fujitsu since over three years – being one of the founding members of the Smart City department. In addition she is focusing on Sustainability, IoT and last mile logistic solutions. Gabriele Semino has been involved in the TUM Hyperloop effort since 2016. As project lead of the student initiative, he led the team to the successes in the SpaceX Hyperloop Pod Competitions in 2017 and 2018. He co-founded NEXT Prototypes e.V., the non-profit organization behind this initiative, and is still serving as its chairman. Moreover, he is currently a research assistant at the Technical University of Munich and project lead of the TUM Hyperloop program, the large interdisciplinary research effort of the Department for Aerospace and Geodesy with the goal of developing the technology needed to make climate-neutral ground-based ultra-high-speed transportation a reality.

After starting into Hyperloop with the Hyperloop Pod Competitions, he is now focusing his work together with the team of the institute towards the transition of the former MagLev test track in Lathen to a European Hyperloop Large Scale Technological Research Infrastructure. Simultaneously he is involved in EU Projects and other transnational Hyperloop Development Programs like the ePIcenter EU-project, the Hyperloop Development Program which is a Dutch initiative with European cooperation and the EU HyTeC Project of Lower Saxony.

Dominik Scherrer is Project Manager for Operations at the EuroTube Foundation, in this role, he is leading the project on information based Mobility Simulation & Modelling. Dominik has business-related degrees from the Rotterdam School of Management and University of St Gallen. Before joining EuroTube, Dominik worked in various functions at SBB, the largest mobility provider in Switzerland.
